About El Rey Court

El Rey Court (The King’s Court) is one of Santa Fe’s few remaining historic hotels. The lovingly preserved El Rey opened in 1936 as a 12-room roadside motor court on the original U.S. Route 66 (the road wound through Santa Fe between 1926 and 1937 before being redirected through Albuquerque).

Through the decades, the Pueblo Revival style motel expanded — the carports were enclosed to become rooms for guests. An outdoor pool was constructed, along with a tequila bar named La Reina (The Queen), which has become a local watering hole for artists around Santa Fe.

El Rey is now considered a boutique hotel. It currently has 86 rooms and suites, each unique and decorated with Southwestern furniture and antiques. It is just a seven-minute drive from the 409-year-old Santa Fe Plaza, and a mile and a half from the psychedelic immersive art collective Meow Wolf.
